4-yr courses approaching, DU reaches out to schoolsNew Delhi Delhi University (DU) officials have begun approaching schools to help them understand the upcoming four-year undergraduate programme.A seminar was held at Alliance Franaise, Lodhi Road, on Tuesday, where school principals and teachers were briefed about the four-year courses in the university. Most of them did not know that classes for the meta-college BTech (Humanities) course had already begun or that the meta-university was scheduled to begin next year.Have the meta-courses started? What is the eligibility criteria for getting admission to the courses? asked Pooja Yadav, a counselor at DCDAV Modern School, Shalimar Bagh.Malini Narayanan, principal of Army Public School, Shankar Vihar, said most students want to know about employment opportunities after completing a course.Dinesh Varshney, Deputy Dean, Students Welfare (South Campus), DU, said, Nowadays, the thrust is on inter-disciplinarity. The BTech (Humanities) course emphasises on practical experience and innovative projects. Students can get employment in various sectors.The maximum number of questions were regarding the admission criteria for all DU courses. The admission process for the four-year undergraduate programme is being worked out by the administration. Two models are being considered: entrance tests or merit lists. However, we have to keep in mind the large number of applications that the university receives every year, Varshney said.Other queries were about which was the best college in the university and whether vocational subjects taught in Class XII will be considered when the cut-off percentage is calculated. Students should not follow the best college mindset.
