Anti-bullying message growsBy Sarah Doktor, Delhi News-RecordWednesday, December 5, 2012 5:02:38 EST PMDELHI - Students at Delhi Public School have made a pledge to end bullying.Every student in the school was involved in the construction of an anti-bullying pledge tree. Each student traced their hand on a piece of paper and wrote a pledge to stop bullying. In my world there are no bullies allowedI will help others. I will not stand by, said Grade 8 student Bailey Kilmers pledge.Kilmer wrote the pledge because, Bullying hurts you forever. You will never forget your experience with bullying. For teachers, it is important to stop bullying to help create a nurturing atmosphere.A safe and inclusive learning environment in schools is critical for students to achieve academic success. Parents and students must be confident in knowing that the school environment is free from harassment, violence, intolerance and intimidation. Our students are strongly encouraged to report bullying, said Tom Holmes, vice principal of DPS.Rubber bracelets with I say no to bullying written on them were also sold at the school Nov. 19 to Nov. 23 during Ontario Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week.Even the junior kindergarten class participated in the awareness campaign. They learned how to stand up to bullies by reading books such as Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns about Bullies by Howard Binkow. While the school continues to spread awareness, there isnt a large problem with bullying at the school, said Grade 6 student Adrianna Booth. We all work together as a team to stop it, she said. The pledge tree will remain in the hall for the remainder of the school year. Its not just one week, its throughout the year, said Holmes about bullying awareness.Sarah Doktor519-426-3528 ext. 112sarah.doktor@sunmedia.catwitter.com/sarahreformerInformation gathered from Internet from Click Here
