Delhi health scheme reaches out to five lakh childrenTHE HINDUNEW DELHI, December 2, 2012 More than 1,200 students studying in Delhi Government schools of Central Delhi were given free specialised health services including dental, eye/vision testing, ENT, health/nutrition communication and health counselling as part of a district referral mela held under Chacha Nehru Sehat Yojana (CNSY) on Saturday.Speaking at the event organised at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Rouse Avenue, Union Minister for Communications & Information Technology Kapil Sibal said: There is enough evidence to show that healthy children retain higher levels of cognitive functionality and are likely to attend school more regularly and for longer. Inculcating awareness about good health practices at this young age will go a long way in building a healthy nation.De-worming programme benefits studentsAlso present on the occasion was Delhi Health Minister A. K. Walia who noted that the health programme within a year of its launch has reached out to five lakh students across Delhi.Many of the students have benefited from the mass de-worming programme and free distribution of spectacles, he added.We will ensure that the benefits of Chacha Nehru Sehat Yojana reaches every child in Delhi Government school. Also pre-school going children are being given treatment for de-worming through 11,000 Anganwadi centres. More than 7,000 students have been provided free spectacles under this scheme in last year, Dr. Walia said.The Chacha Nehru Sehat Yojna is receiving technical assistance from Global Health Strategies (GHS) for implementation and monitoring of the programme in Central district of Delhi.
