Delhi schools turn to oath tactics for a better DiwaliNew Delhi: In a bid to stop kids from bursting crackers, Delhi schools are getting students to take oaths of not to bring crackers to school. As the battle against crackers on Diwali seems to be far from won, school authorities say that they are resorting to oath tactics to make children stop from bursting crackers at least on school premises. Otherwise known as the festival of lights, it is bursting crackers more than anything else that is the centre of attraction for children and even adults in India. However some schools authorities said that the no-cracker campaign has failed to fetch desired results, despite the hype created in understanding environmental issues in the past few years. While others say that its the lack of cooperation from the parents that makes the children forget the oath taken in schools. A study conducted by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) shows that noise and air pollution levels were higher during Diwali in 2010 than 2009, despite nationwide campaigns against firecrackers. Improvements in air quality after Delhi imposed rules making auto-rickshaws and buses run off liquefied natural gas (LPG) have been partly offset by new cars on the road-and their numbers have nearly doubled over the last decade, thanks to rising incomes. Also, Indians are at high risk of respiratory ailments, heart disease and lung cancer, according to recent World Health Organisation (WHO) data that showed Delhi's air had almost 10 times the recommended level of PM10 particulate matter, or particles small enough to penetrate to the deepest part of the lungs and cause health problems.Information gathered from Internet from Click Here
