Government slackness led to admission rules violation by private schools on goverment-alotted land in DelhiAccording to the Directorate of Education (DOE), Delhi, under a new policy decision all private and non-minority schools as well as minority schools on government lands along with reserved 25 per cent for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) or poor students for entry-level classes will also have to admit 20 per cent such students for admissions done from grade level two onwards. The new policy decision has been taken in wake of a PIL filed in the High Court in 2011 regarding the issue. It may be recalled, in Delhi, the schools built on public land allotted by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on concessional rates were condition-bound to admit at least 20 per cent children belonging to the weaker sections, but had been violating this rule. In fact the DOE had not build any mechanism to make the rule operative earlier leading to its violation under the Delhi Schools Education Act.An affidavit in this respect has been submitted by the DOE in a court in response to a PIL filed last year. According to the affidavit, for class/section in which EWS students are admitted in schools which have been allotted land by government agencies shall have to offer 20 per cent of the admissions to children belonging to EWS.Information gathered from Internet Click Here
