(JEFF DERTINGER Simcoe Reformer)Delhi libero Colin Vankerrebroeck leaps forward to make a bump during the NSSAA senior boys volleyball game at Port Dover Composite School Thursday. Delhi won in straight sets and booked its ticket into next week's playoffs. (JEFF DERTINGER Simcoe Reformer) PORT DOVER - The Delhi Raiders made sure Thursday's game wasn't an ending for both teams on the court.Delhi needed one final win to book its ticket to next Monday's NSSAA semifinal round. The squad delivered its best performance of the season, and now have a date with the 9-1 Simcoe Sabres. That was the best complete game the boys played, and it looks like they're coming together at just the right time, Raiders co-coach Ryan Gaertner said.Delhi and Waterford finished the year with identical 3-7 records. They also split the season series, with each team winning a match three sets to none. The tiebreaker came down to points scored during head-to-head play, with Delhi holding a 16-point edge based essentially on one blowout set in which they beat Waterford 25-6.The NSSAA senior boys semifinals will go Monday at Simcoe Composite School beginning at 6 p.m. Holy Trinity (8-2) will play Valley Heights (7-3) first, with the Simcoe-Delhi game immediately following.Delhi just played Simcoe on Tuesday night, and although they lost in straight sets, the team did gain some confidence from that match. We started out strong every set we beat them to 10 points every game before hitting a lull and giving all the momentum to Simcoe Gaertner said. We've got nothing to lose Monday. We're the heavy underdogs going in, so all the boys have to worry about is giving their best effort and see what happens.Junior playoffs still in fluxWhile the senior matchups are set, NSSAA officials were still trying to sort out the junior boys volleyball standings late Thursday night.Holy Trinity finished first overall with a perfect 6-0 record, while Simcoe, Delhi and Valley Heights all finished 2-4.To make things even more complicated, the head-to-head set victories were identical in every case. Valley Heights and Simcoe each beat the other three sets to one; Valley Heights and Delhi also swapped 3-1 victories; and Delhi and Simcoe both earned a 3-0 sweep against the other. What NSSAA officials were trying to figure out Thursday was whether the tiebreaker was total sets won on the season, or if it is total points scored in the head-to-head matches. If it goes total sets, Valley Heights finishes second as they took set victories off Holy Trinity. Delhi and Simcoe would still be tied considering they were both swept by the Titans this year. If head-to-head points are the only tiebreaker, well, NSSAA has some math to do.What we do know is the junior boys semifinals will be played at Holy Trinity Catholic High School Monday. Due to a scheduling conflict with officials, the times of those games have been bumped up to afternoon starts. The first game will feature the second- and third-place teams facing off at 2:30 p.m. The second contest at 4 p.m. will see Holy Trinity play the fourth-place squad.Jeff Dertinger519-426-3528 ext. 134jeff.dertinger@sunmedia.catwitter.com/jeffreformerReader's comments Information gathered from Internet from Click Here
