Nursery admission: Online forms ease rush Times of India2-January-2013EWS Turnout Encouraging, General Category Forms Sell Fast On Day OneNew Delhi: Early morning queues for nursery forms were conspicuous by their absence at most city schools on Tuesday, thanks to more schools moving the first steps of the admission process online and allowing two weeks for sale and submission of applications. Those schools selling only over-the-counter forms for general category witnessed some rush. But there, too, the lines moved fast. There were a handful of schools in south Delhi where forms had to be collected from the counters. But this year, fewer applicants turned up on the opening day. There was a long queue at The Indian School, Sadiq Nagar, in the early hours, but only till the gates were opened and sales began. Members of the school band were brought in during the holidays to play for the parents. The number of forms sold on the first day is slightly less than last year. It maybe because this year parents have a lot more time to collect forms, said Tania Joshi of The Indian School. Many parents enlisted the help of friends and family to collect forms from all over the town as they were planning to apply to as many as 20 schools. Gurmeet Kaur, resident of Sadiq Nagar, had thought that her son would get into Birla Vidya Niketan, Pushp Vihar, easily as she already has a daughter studying there, and she wont have to approach too many schools. But now I will apply to at least 15 schools as I have just seen the points scheme and realized after including points for distance, sibling and alumni my son will get only 65 points, which may not be enough. When I admitted my daughter she had over 70 points, she said. Among other schools which are selling forms over the counter are Tagore International, East of Kailash, Ryan International, Vasant Kunj, Ahlcon Public School and ASN School Mayur Vihar. Among schools which witnessed the kind of rush seen in pre-online era of nursery admissions was ASN School, Mayur Vihar-I. Many parents, in fact, returned disappointed on the first day as the counter closed at its scheduled time. I didnt expect such a long queue. I could not get the form today and will return tomorrow, said Vinod Sharma, a resident of Pandav Nagar. Ahlcon Public School, Mayur Vihar-I, too, sold over 600 forms for general category students. The number of applicants for EWS category was encouraging. Ahlcon Public School distributed over 400 forms, Ahlcon International recorded 250 applications, and in the north, Kulachi Hansraj School, Ashok Vihar distributed 100 EWS forms on the first day.
