South MCD to give computer, sports facility28 Dec 2012,Hindustan Times (Delhi)Municipal schools will also have multi-media facility; more budget overallStudents of municipal schools in south Delhi may get better access to computer education and sports facilities in the coming year. The South Delhi Municipal Corporation that runs 588 schools has proposed to install computers and multi-media facilities in its classrooms and open a sports academy. In the first phase, five schools from each of the four zones will be selected for multi-media installation. To provide better uniforms, the corporation also plans to give ready-made uniforms to students instead of giving them the money. The funds for the uniforms will increase from the existing R500 to R1,500 per student. The proposals were made during the budget of the education committee where some major initiatives were discussed.Committee chairperson Satish Upadhyay said the corporation will open a talent search academy to identify athletic students. Schools will also get modern, sleek buildings as opposed to the dull designs at present."The city does not have a single sports school. We would open a Talent Search Academy for Sports next year which would help in identifying talent in sports at a young age. In sports like gymnastic, athletes need to start training at a young age if they have to compete in international sports meets like the Olympics," said Upadhyay. The corporation has also decided to hire experts on contractual basis to train students. "Hiring special teachers on a permanent basis takes time and gets stuck in bureaucratic set up. So we have decided to hire students of arts and music from Delhi University to trains the students," said Upadhyay. The total expenditure outlay for the new schemes proposed by the committee would be R20.78 crore. The new schemes would increase the budgetary allocation to the education sector for the next financial year (2013-14), as proposed by SDMC Commissioner Manish Gupta, to R638.31 crore. The commissioner in his budget proposals had allocated R617.53 crore for the education sector.Information gathered from Internet Click Here
